bedding can contribute to respiratory problems’. The Animal Health Trust is currently working with Kraiburg on a research project into the optimum stable environment for respiratory health. The AHT’s Dr David Marlin has advocated for some time that rubber matting is an essential part of low-dust management for stabled horses, but as he says, ‘What we have come to learn is that not all rubber matting systems are equal. In fact, poorly manufactured and installed rubber matting can cause problems in itself. This is the reason that the Animal Health Trust has chosen to work with Kraiburg to evaluate the true benefits of a properly designed rubber matting system for horses.’ Kraiburg mats are thick, non-porous solid rubber that helps protect from stable injury and offers a soft, safe, thermally insulated walking surface.
