Safer take off zones

In an endeavour to improve safety for cross country riders, Kraiburg is trialling a 'safe take off zone' rubber brick system.

The first trial is successfully underway. In 2001 Kraiburg installed rubber bricks in the take off zone of a cross-country fence at Aston le Walls. The trial was conducted to assess the potential of the bricks to provide a consistent, safe take off area for horse and rider. The rubber bricks were installed on a popular fence on the cross country course. Nigel Taylor of Aston Le Walls has confirmed that to date the take off zone performs very well in all weather conditions. He is very impressed with the result.

Some of the key points are:

  • Consistent take off and landing areas in all weathers
  • Safer landing for both horse and rider if they fall onto the rubber
  • Surface water drains away much quicker, preventing poaching
  • Fences can be used more regularly without compromising safety
  • Grass grows through the rubber, so the zone is aesthetically pleasing

Kraiburg is now seeking to extend trials to other courses. Anyone interested in developing this concept with us should call Carson Jones on 01278 727755.
